David Wilkes

David R. Wilkes is a retired water consulting engineer currently living in Sandy Springs. He is originally from Eden, NC. He went to North Carolina State University for his undergraduate Civil Engineering degree. A master's degree in Environmental Engineering took him to the University of Texas where he picked up his love for running the 800m in intramurals on the track (2-time 800m champion!). A consulting career took him to many places across the U.S. until he and his family settled in Atlanta in 1999. Wilkes has competed at the Indoor and Outdoor Masters National Championships for Atlanta Track Club winning multiple medals in the 800m and the steeplechase. He is a Youth Ambassador for the Club and volunteers at the Mid-Week Mile and Dashes and youth cross-country events. Volunteering as a course monitor at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race is also an annual tradition for him.
