The Atlanta Track Club masters men’s teams dominated at the 2011 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships on Saturday, December 10, 2011 in Seattle. With over 350 runners finishing the 40+ race, this was by the deepest masters field of the year.
The ATC’s 40+ men’s squad won the team competition with a historic low of 22 points, 50 points better than the second place Greater Springfield Harriers. The ATC’s Malcolm Campbell claimed first place overall in the men’s 40+ event with a time of 32:13. Other stellar performances from the ATC men’s 40+ team included Chad Newton with his 3rd place overall finish (3rd in the 40-44 AG) in 32:25, Eric Stabb’s 5th place overall finish in 32:52, Robin Rogers’ 6th place overall finish in 33:15 and Kristian Blaich’s 7th place overall finish (3rd in the 45-49 AG) in 33:28. Rounding out the ATC master's men’s 40+ team were Michael Strickland, Ken Wempe and Steve Wilcox.
The masters men’s 60+ squad also brought home a victory for the Atlanta Track Club, edging out second place team, the Bolder Road Runners, by six points. Scoring runners were Mike Wien in 3rd place with a time of 39:28, Kirk Larson in 5th place with a time of 39:53 and Jerry Learned in 6th place with a time of 39:58. Bill Moore and Vasan “Pooh” Neovakul rounded out the rest of the 60+ team.
The ATC’s 50+ men’s masters team of John Tuttle, Jeff Dundas, Ken Youngers, Gary Droze, Phil Richey, Jim Bitsko, John Kissane and Alfie Cronin also had a strong team showing at the championships finishing in 3rd place in the 50+ team competition.
Also representing the Atlanta Track Club at the 2011 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships were the ATC men’s open, women’s open, women’s 40+ and women’s 50+ teams. Full results from the 2011 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships can be found here.
