1st Half / 2nd Half
In 2024 we are offering a choice to run the "1st Half" of the marathon course (the traditional, historical half marathon course) or the "2nd Half" of the marathon course which takes participants past the iconic Mercedes Benz Stadium; through the Atlanta University Center consisting of four historically black colleges and universities; and south into Cheney Stadium for a run around Atlanta's Olympic practice surface and under the Olympic rings before heading back to the finish line.
The 2nd Half will begin at 8:00 a.m. from Home Depot Backyard.
Awards for overall male, female and non-binary awards will be given for both the 1st Half and 2nd Half events however age group awards will only be given to 1st Half participants. The 1st Half continues to feature our elite athletes and be our competitive course.
Those attempting to run the full marathon by combining the two half marathons will be disqualified. All 2nd Half Marathoners must have a start line read on their timing chip at the 8:00 a.m. start time.
MARATHON RELAY DETAILS
Everything is better with a buddy! If you're not quite ready for the full marathon, grab your run/walk partner and participate in the marathon relay. The relay is a 2 person team event consisting of two 13.1 mile legs. The first team member will begin with the overall start of the full and half marathon. The second team member takes over at the finish line once their teammate completes the first 13.1 miles of the course. Each team member receives a finisher's medal at the finish line.
REGISTRATION: The team captain will register and pay for the team. Upon completion of registration the captain will be sent to a confirmation page with instructions for managing the team. Captains will have a custom team link to invite their run partner, establish your team name and more.
LOGISTICS: Relay teams need to pick up their race numbers at the Expo on Friday, February 23 or Saturday, February 24 at The Home Depot Backyard. Along with your race numbers and t-shirts, teams will receive a branded bib belt to which they will attach their team bib. Each member of the team will wear a Relay bib on their shirt or shorts, but the bib with the chiming chip should be attached to your belt. That belt will be exchanged from the 1st runner to the 2nd at the Exchange Zone. The Exchange Zone is located at the finish line. This is also where runner #2 will wait for their teammate. An iPad will announce incoming teammates as they approach the exchange zone. The Exchange Zone is marked on the start/finish area map.
AWARDS: Awarded to overall men's team, overall women's team, overall non-binary team and overall co-ed team.
Open to 2-person teams only. Any single person attempting to run the relay by themselves will be disqualified.
