ATLANTA — April 10, 2024 — World champions Noah Lyles and Grant Holloway are confirmed to return to the adidas Atlanta City Games, organizers announced today.
The adidas Atlanta City Games is North America's only "street meet," taking world-class track and field out of the traditional stadium and onto a temporary straightaway and into Atlanta's Piedmont Park.
In addition to athletes likely headed to the Olympic Games this summer, the next generation will receive its share of the City Games spotlight in the High School Invitational, featuring the top sprinters and hurdlers in the state of Georgia competing as part of the marquee program.
Headlining the men's 150m will be Noah Lyles. Lyles returns to Atlanta after a storybook 2023 season that saw him become the first man since 2015 to win world titles at 100m, 200m and in the 4x100m relay. Testing his range earlier this year, Lyles opened his 2024 campaign with a string of indoor victories, culminating with his first USATF Indoor national title at 60m, followed by silver medals at the World Athletics Indoor Championships at 60m and as a member of Team USA's 4x400m relay.
Also returning to Atlanta after a sensational indoor season, Grant Holloway leads the field in the men's 110m hurdles. For the ninth consecutive winter, Holloway went undefeated in the 60m hurdles, winning his second consecutive World Athletics Indoor Championship gold and improving his own world record to 7.28A. Last year, Holloway was dominant outdoors, winning his third consecutive world outdoor championship and claiming victory in 12 of his 15 hurdles finals.
One of the world's best multi-event athletes, Anna Hall will be making her second-straight appearance at the adidas Atlanta City Games. Hall enjoyed a fantastic 2023 season, breaking the US indoor record in the pentathlon, winning her second-straight USATF outdoor heptathlon title and taking the silver medal in the heptathlon at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. In Atlanta, Hall will start in both the 100m hurdles and long jump.
The day will begin with the adidas Atlanta City Games - Youth, in which kids ages 9 to 14 will have the opportunity to compete in sprint and hurdle events on the same elevated track as the professionals who will toe the line later that afternoon. Then after the last professional event of the day on the elevated track, high school milers will take the stage across the street at Midtown High School. There, the Midtown Miles will feature a series of All-Comers races that will culminate in an Elite High School Mile, with fields to be drawn from the top male and female entrants. The high school events will be conducted in lieu of the annual Wingfoot Night of Champions, which is expected to return in full force next year.
The adidas Atlanta City Games, produced by the Atlanta Track Club and Boston-based Global Athletics & Marketing, Inc., will be shown live for free on both adidas' YouTube Channel as well as Noah Lyles' YouTube Channel from 4:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 18.
